The Institute of Actuaries of Australia congratulates three of its members who have received Australian Honours. The President of the Institute, Dr David Knox, said "It’s a fantastic recognition of the role of the profession and the outstanding achievements, services and contributions of three members." "Dr Greg Taylor thoroughly deserves his AO for service to the actuarial profession, both in Australia and world-wide. His contribution is unique and he has played a very significant role in advancing actuarial understanding, in several fields." "His career is remarkable. In 1997 he received the only Gold Medal ever awarded by the Institute of Actuaries of Australia. In addition, he is the only person to have won twice a prestigious international actuarial research award, where contestants write using a pseudonym. Yet, his contribution is more than that. He has been willing to share his insights with many audiences around the world in a manner that is open, professional and thought provoking." "Bob Glading received an AM for service to the insurance industry and the actuarial profession, particularly the development of legislation and support for the application of new techniques in actuarial practice. He served as Deputy Commissioner of the Insurance and Superannuation Commission for ten years. During this period, he led a review of the legislative framework for prudential regulation of the life insurance industry, which resulted in the Life Insurance Act 1995." "Peter Vinson received an OAM for service to the actuarial profession and the life insurance industry, particularly through the development of professional standards and legislation." Dr Knox said: "On behalf of the actuarial profession throughout Australia, I extend our sincere congratulations to these three outstanding actuaries. Their contributions to the Australian community have been significant and their recognition is thoroughly deserved"
