The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) is holding a free public investor forum in Coffs Harbour on Wednesday July 5.

In the last ten years over 100,000 Australians have lost their life savings in dodgy investment schemes, and ASIC is going on the warpath to warn people about some of the dangers involved when it comes to investing.

In a time of low interest rates, the rates of return offered by some schemes just sound too good to be true - and the bad news is that they usually are.

If you want to find out how to set financial goals, get good financial advice and avoid being ripped off, this forum is for you.

Jane Diplock, ASIC’s NSW Regional Commissioner and Lucienne Layton, NSW Director DISC will lend the benefit of their experience to talk about what to look for before investing, and other issues.

The free forum will use ASIC case studies as examples, and there will be opportunities to ask questions during the hour as well as afterwards.

Don’t think you have any investments? Don’t be so sure!
  • If you’ve got superannuation, you’re an investor.
  • If you’ve got Telstra, AMP or other shares, you’re an investor
  • If you’ve got insurance, you’re an investor
  • And if you’ve got plans for your financial future, you’ll soon be one!
The forum will be held at the Coffs Harbour Ex-Services Club from 5:30 - 6:30pm on Wednesday July 5.

Places are strictly limited and can be booked by calling 1300 729 000 by June 30 for the cost of a local call.

ASIC’s messages about safe investing need to be widely spread in coastal NSW, and we need your help to get them out.

Both Jane Diplock and Lucienne Layton are available for interview in the weeks prior to the investor forum in Newcastle.
